Increase of cloud droplet size with aerosol optical depth: An observation and modeling study
[1] Cloud droplet effective radius (DER) is generally negatively correlated with aerosol optical depth (AOD) as a proxy of cloud condensation nuclei. In this study, cases of positive correlation were found over certain portions of the world by analyzing the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite products, together with a general finding that DER may increase or decrease...
متن کاملOrganic aerosol effects on fog droplet spectra
[1] Organic aerosol alters cloud and fog properties through surface tension and solubility effects. This study characterizes the role of organic compounds in affecting fog droplet number concentration by initializing and comparing detailed particle microphysical simulations with two field campaigns in the Po Valley. The size distribution and chemical composition of aerosol were based on the mea...
متن کاملMultiplexed droplet Interface bilayer formation.
We present a simple method for the multiplexed formation of droplet interface bilayers (DIBs) using a mechanically operated linear acrylic chamber array. To demonstrate the functionality of the chip design, a lipid membrane permeability assay is performed. We show that multiple, symmetric DIBs can be created and separated using this robust low-cost approach.
متن کاملan experimental study of turbulent mixing near a density interface
the entrainment of a stably stratified layer into a turbulent mixed layer in a confined region has been studied in the laboratory for different richardson numbers, ri. the results include direct observation of turbulent characteristics and density measurements using two high precision salinity meters. the measurements include turbulence intensity, scale of eddies near the interface and energy s...
متن کاملDynamic morphologies of microscale droplet interface bilayers.
Droplet interface bilayers (DIBs) are a powerful platform for studying the dynamics of synthetic cellular membranes; however, very little has been done to exploit the unique dynamical features of DIBs. Here, we generate microscale droplet interface bilayers (μDIBs) by bringing together femtoliter-volume water droplets in a microfluidic oil channel, and characterize morphological changes of the ...
